Empowering Future STEM Leaders:
TPL’s Career Counselling Session at NJV School to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
At TPL, we are dedicated to empowering young minds and contributing to their growth. In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we had the privilege of hosting a career counselling session at NJV School on February 6, 2025. The event aimed to inspire students, particularly girls, to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)—fields rich with opportunities for innovation and impact.
The interactive session brought together a dynamic group of 40+ eager students, excited to learn more about the vast possibilities STEM careers offer. Over the course of 90 minutes, our distinguished speakers, Wajiha Hafiz—Chief Information Officer at TPL Insurance, and Zahra Hijri—a landscape architect at TPL Properties, shared their personal journeys, professional experiences, and insights into the world of STEM.
Session Highlights:
- Personal Journeys & Professional Growth: Wajiha and Zahra shared their educational backgrounds and the defining moments that led them to their current roles. Their stories highlighted the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and following one’s passion.
- Current Roles & Responsibilities: The speakers provided a deep dive into their roles at TPL, offering students a real-world look at the responsibilities and impact of working in STEM fields.
- Overcoming Challenges: One of the most inspiring parts of the session was hearing about the obstacles Wajiha and Zahra faced in their careers and how they overcame them with determination and resilience.
- Real-World Insights: Students got a firsthand look at what a typical workday in STEM looks like, including the critical problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation that drive progress in these fields.
- Inspiration & Motivation: Wajiha and Zahra emphasized that passion, curiosity, and resilience are the cornerstones of a successful STEM career. They encouraged students to embrace challenges and pursue their interests fearlessly.
The session was a powerful reminder that women can be trailblazers in STEM fields. Through their stories, Wajiha and Zahra broke down barriers and inspired the students to see themselves in similar roles. Their experiences demonstrated that, with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
Reflecting on the Impact
At TPL, we understand the importance of creating opportunities for young women to thrive in STEM. The session at NJV School was an essential step in motivating the next generation of women to pursue these fields, and we are grateful for Wajiha and Zahra’s contributions. We also want to thank NJV School for hosting such an enriching event.
This event marks the beginning of our ongoing commitment to support and mentor young women in their STEM journeys. We look forward to continuing our efforts to create pathways for young girls to realize their full potential and thrive in these fields.
Thank you to everyone who participated—together, we’re inspiring the future of women in STEM!
